The Anichkov Bridge is a key monument and important bridge located in St. Petersburg, Russia. Construction of the bridge began in 1717 under the order of Peter the Great and was completed by architect Trezzini in 1739. The bridge is composed of three arches and decorated with four Horse Tamers, which were installed in 1752 by Baron von Anichkov as dedication to Empress Elizabeth of Russia. The Horse Tamers were some of the earliest equestrian statues in Russia and are considered to be one of the most famous public sculptures in St. Petersburg. The bridge was also known as the first stone opening bridge across the Fontanka River and offered an important connection to the Neva River, and later from there to the Gulf of Finland.
