It is known as the oldest large-scale funerary complex in Egypt and is the final resting place of the 5th and 6th Dynasty rulers. History:

The earliest known use of Abu Sir Necropolis dates back to 2494 BC and the beginning of the 5th dynasty of Egypt. The funerary complex was used extensively by the 6th dynasty and underwent a number of renovations throughout the ages. Pharaoh Djedefre beautified the eastern side of the complex and added a number of tombs, offering chapels and large mortuary complexes with private and public sections.
