is centred around the early pioneering work of the 'Covenantors'. In 1891 the first Methodist local preacher was sent to this part of Zimbabwe by the then Prime Bishop of Harare, Rev. E.M. Kay. The local preacher, eager to spread the Word of God, had a great effect on the local population. He was soon followed by other Methodist preachers and lay workers, eager to promote the Methodist faith. For many years, the Methodists had a significant presence in the district and in the early 1960s, a more formalised structure of the Methodist church was introduced and the first chapel was officially built in 1968. The Church was named Vavambi, a Shona word meaning 'The Dawn of God's War'. Today, Vavambi is a vibrant centre of worship for the local Methodist congregation and is still a major force within the local community.
