History:

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Zimbabwe (ELCZ) was established in 1976 when Eastern and Western churches broke their ties with the Lutheran Church in South Africa. At the time there were 21 synods, congregations, and Lutheran schools spread throughout Zimbabwe and the neighboring countries of Botswana, Mozambique, and South Africa. Over the last forty years the ELCZ has grown greatly and is now one of the largest denominations in the country with a membership of more than 300,000. The Church is made up of 31 synods, which are governed by regional and national synodal councils. The ELCZ is dedicated to living out the teachings of Jesus Christ and nurturing relationships with other Lutheran churches around the world.
