History:

The temple is dedicated to Aschen or Gobindo Mahadev. This temple is located in the village of Beliata in the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal. According to local legends, this temple was founded by a former landowner named Mahasay Gangadhar Roy. During the time of Mughal rule in present day India, a tyrant ruler named Mir Jumla II invaded the Cooch Behara district. In order to escape from Mir Jumla's forces, Mahasay Gangadhar Roy brought the idols of Gobindo Mahadev and Devi Aschen Maa to his village and established a temple. The original temple building was destroyed over time. However, the idols are still worshipped today. It is one of the best temple in West-Bengal which you must visit.
