Worship Method:

Jora Masjid in Murshidabad follows the Sunni Islamic ritual of worship as prescribed in the Hanafi school of jurisprudence. Structurally, the mosque has a central, enclosed prayer hall. Worshippers line up in single file lines and recite the Quran and offer prayers in unison led by an Imam (spiritual leader) from the pulpit. The mosque has a large courtyard outside, where the Friday prayer congregation of the mosque gather during the noon hours of each week. During the Friday prayers, four to five imams (spiritual leaders) recite verses from the Quran and deliver sermons. At the mosque, following all the rituals of Islamic prayers, the Muslims chant phrases of praises for Allah and the Prophet Muhammad. Aside from the regular five daily prayers, Taraweeh is performed during the holy month of Ramadan, in which the Quran is recited throughout the course of the night.
