The Tomb of Khai Dinh is an imperial mausoleum located in Hue, Thua Thien-Hue province in Vietnam. It is the resting place of the 12th Emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty, Khai Dinh (1885–1925). The tomb was built between 1920 and 1931 and is a combination of Vietnamese and French cultural influences. The tomb was the last of the royal tombs to be built in Hue and is considered one of the most ambitious imperial projects of that era. The construction of the tomb began in 1920, with the Emperor travelling from Hanoi to Hue to inspect the project. Its design and construction were overseen by the court architect, Le Van Duc, who was assigned by Emperor Khai Dinh. The tomb is constructed out of reinforced concrete, a modern construction material at the time. Duc drew inspiration from Vietnamese and European architecture and combined them together to create the unique design of the tomb. The facade of the tomb is decorated with intricate details, including over 11,000 pieces of ceramic and more than 160 sculptures carved from marble and bronze.
