The Hollywood Museum in California has a fascinating history dating back to the 1940s. Currently located in the heart of Hollywood in the historic Max Factor Building, the museum honors the industry’s most iconic stars, filmmakers, and their contribution to Hollywood’s iconic legacy. Originally founded in 1947, the Hollywood Museum was originally located in the Millard Hotel in Hollywood. It was founded by film historian and preservationist Kenneth H. Jenevein and his partner Eugene H. Metz to document the rich and varied history of the entertainment industry. Jenevein’s passion for conservation was rooted in the use of actual props, costumes, and original artwork that represented the iconic entertainment legacy of Hollywood. Since Kendra H. Jenevein's opening year, the museum has transitioned through various locations, including its first official space being a converted residential property on South La Brea Avenue in 1955. It was during this time Jenevein's work was recognized and honored by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors who declared him "Hollywood Museum Keeper" in 1957. In 1978, the museum found a permanent and much larger home in the 1930’s Max Factor Building and the building was added to the National Register of Historical Places in 1998. The MAX Factor building has become the museum’s permanent home, showcasing over 10,000 unique artifacts, props, movie posters and memorabilia from beloved films, TV shows, and personalities.
