The Apostolic Faith Church was founded in 1906 by Florence Crawford in what was then known as the Azusa Street Revival. Led by William J. Seymour, the new congregation embraced the Pentecostal theology of holiness and divine healing. By the end of 1907, the Azusa Street Revival had spread across North America and eventually to Europe. The Apostolic Faith Church was founded in part to provide an institutional expression to the Pentecostal movement. During its first decades, the Apostolic Faith Church adopted a "come as you are" approach to membership and was largely an interracial church.
