St. Martin Kirche was built in 1095 upon the orders of Archbishop of Mainz, Walther von Loxich. It stands on the site of a much earlier church dedicated to St Martin of Tours. The current building was designed by master mason Holzapfel in the Romanesque style, featuring one central nave and two aisles, crowned with a clerestory. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Germany.
