The Rüstem Pasha Mosque is an Ottoman-era mosque in Istanbul, Turkey, located near the Spice Bazaar in the Eminönü district. It was designed by the renowned Ottoman architect Sinan for the Grand Vizier Damat Rüstem Pasha, who was the son-in-law of Süleyman the Magnificent. The mosque was constructed between 1561 and 1563. The mosque features two minarets, each having three balconies with a total of six balconies. The minarets are decorated with black and white Ottoman tiles and also feature a star pattern on the main corridor and cupolas of each balcony. The mosque’s entrance is on the western side, which leads into a central axial courtyard, with a three-tiered fountain in the center. On the north side of the courtyard is the prayer hall, a large square hall surrounded by four colonnades. The front wall of the prayer hall is covered in Iznik tiles of blue, green, and white. The mosque’s main dome stands above the center of the prayer hall, with four smaller domes located on each corner. The main dome is decorated with Ottoman tiling and surrounded by sixteen smaller domes, each covered with different-colored plastered tiles. The interior is illuminated by two rows of windows located along the walls. The mosque also features a shrine dedicated to Rüstem Pasha, which is located off the central courtyard. The structure houses several artifacts that belonged to the grand vizier. It is a small room with a low ceiling and decorated with Iznik tiles both inside and out.
