Konya Ereğli Grand Mosque, also known as Konya Ulu Camii, is a grand mosque in Konya, Turkey. It was first built during the rule of Ottoman Sultan Selim I in 1518. However, it was destroyed in 1548 when the Empire was ruled by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and then rebuild in 1560. The mosque is an important part of Konya's religious and cultural heritage. The mosque was built in the traditional Ottoman architecture style with an upper level three-level baroque-style minaret. The building features various ornaments which adorn its exterior walls. The mosque holds three large domes, and four semi-domes on each side of the building. The interiors and exteriors of the mosque are decorated with fine marble and the walls are ornamented with intricate Islamic calligraphy. The main prayer hall of the mosque has a capacity of 1,200 people and there are 43 shops in the surrounding bazaar. The Konya Ereğli Grand Mosque, also known as the Ereğli Ulu Camii, is a classical Ottoman mosque situated in the historical Konya district of Konya, Turkey. The mosque is a two-story masonry structure that was constructed in 1550–1551 under the rule of Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent. The mosque is made up of a monumental main façade, a large courtyard and prayer hall, and minarets. The main façade of the building consists of an arched and pointed portal, which is surmounted by an ornately decorated stone canopy. The upper parts of the main entrance feature turrets crowned with conical domes. The walls are decorated with elaborate tile work and marble inlays. The courtyard of the mosque features a large fountain in the center, surrounded by four marble pillars topped with mihrabs (prayer Niches). The entrance to the prayer hall is located in the center of the courtyard and leads to the prayer hall, which is divided by three impressive columns supporting a large, five-striped dome rising from the center of the room. The prayer hall has a high, decorated wooden ceiling which features muqarnas and other decorative elements. The corner minarets are also decorated with colorful tilework. The mosque also features a separate building for ablution and a cemetery adjacent to the main building.
