History:

The Ephesus Archaeological Museum of Izmir is one of the most important museums in the world, dedicated to preserving the history and culture of the ancient city of Ephesus. It was founded in 1926 under the authority of Professor Mübarek Yüzer, the director of the German Institute for Anatolian Archaeology in Ankara. Initially it was located in the city of Selçuk, not far from the ancient city itself. At that time, the museum housed collections from the Ephesus excavations, carried out by German and Austrian archaeological teams between 1895 and 1905. In the 1940s, the museum moved to its current location in the Izmir Archaeological Museum in Balçova.
