History:

The Al Wathba Wetland Reserve is located in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Al Wathba is one of Abu Dhabi's first protected areas, established in 1970. It is known as a Ramsar site, and is recognized as an Important Bird Area (IBA) and a wetland of international importance. It has been designated a reserve to protect its unique biological features and to help restore the area to its natural state. The main water body within the Al Wathba Reserve is Wathbajul, a permanent marshland with an area of 14720 hectares.
