Ma’ufanga has a rich history, with archaeological evidence that dates back to 500 BC. It was an important port of call for trading vessels from the Far East as well as the occasional foreign vessel. It was also home to the largest Tongan fort – the “Fefana”. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Tonga.
