The Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) is a Christian denomination that is part of the Presbyterian denomination worldwide. It was established in 1947 as the, West African Presbyterian Church, under the auspices of the United Presbyterian Church of Scotland. The Church of Scotland and the United Free Church of Scotland amalgamated to form the Church of Scotland in 1929, and in 1943 the Church of Scotland entered into fellowship with the Church of Scotland in West Africa.
The senior pastor of the PCG in Togo is currently Rev. Barnabas Tsatsu Adjei. The church is committed to social development, as it works to provide quality education, healthcare, and clean water and sanitation.
History
The church was founded in 1947 in what was then the British colony of Nigeria, in what is now Ghana. Its first missionaries were sent out in 1949, and the Presbyter Church Ghana has expanded over the years and now has over 110 congregations in Ghana and Togo, making it the largest Protestant denomination in the country.
In 1997, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana entered into a formal partnership with the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, with the goal of furthering the work of missions, education, healthcare, economic development, and social justice.
In 2010, seven congregations of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Togo were established by merging their former parishioners from the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Nigeria with those from the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Ghana.
