Worship Method:
Thiruchendur Senthil Andavar Temple is one of the six abodes of Lord Murugan, located in Thiruchendur, Tamil Nadu. The main deity of the temple is Lord Murugan, who is also known as Senthil Andavar or Shanmuganathar. The temple follows the traditional Agama Vaidika pooja methodology where four main poojas are performed each day. These poojas are offered to both Lord Murugan and His consorts, Valli and Deivanai. The main poojas include Thirumanjanam (Thirumanjanam - Holy Bath), Uchi Kaala Puja (Morning Worship), Sayaratchai (Evening Worship) and Arthajama Puja (Night Worship). The poojas start in the morning and continue until late afternoon, with breaks in between for meals and rest. During the morning pooja, different items such as oil lamps, incense, holy water and flowers are offered to the deities. After this, Varuna japam is performed, which is a kind of prayer to request for peace and prosperity. The next step is Abhishekam, where holy water and various kinds of leaves are offered to the deity. The afternoon pooja includes offerings of food, flowers and different types of sweets. After this, the Arthajama pooja is performed, featuring the offering of various items such as mango leaves, flowers, coconut water and milk. Finally, Deeparadhana (lighting of lamps) is performed and the temple is closed. Apart from these regular poojas, other religious events such as Thirukalyanam (divine marriage of Lord Murugan and His consorts Valli and Deivanai) and Thiruvathirai (anniversary of Lord Murugan’s birth) are also celebrated here.
