Worship Method:

The Thillai Nataraja Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva in the form of the ‘Cosmic Dance of Ananda Tandava’. A unique feature of this temple is that only Siva worshippers can enter and puja is done daily. The worship rituals follow the traditional Agama system as prescribed in the Shaiva Siddhanta and the Smarta Agama schools of Hindu philosophy. The sacred priests of the temple perform the daily pujas (worship rituals) with great devotion at the sanctum sanctorum of the Lord. The divine pujas include ‘kalasabhishekam’, ‘malaithiruvadi’, ‘abhishekam’ and ‘prasadam’. A grand ‘Mahasivarathri’ festival is celebrated in this temple annually in the month of Masi (February-March). The main offering at this occasion is ‘Ghee abhishekam’. The daily pooja begins at 6.00 a.m. and is followed by ‘thalattu’ and ‘thirupalli ezhuntharulal’. The ‘aradana’ (worship) is observed on all days between 6.30 a.m. and 12.00 noon and from 4.00 p.m. till 8.00 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
