The main deity in the Prithyankara Devi Temple is Goddess Prithyankara, an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. A number of rituals and festivals are celebrated throughout the year by the devotees of the temple. The main rituals are as follows: 1) Thirumanjanam: The Thirumanjanam ritual is conducted to invoke the Goddess Prithyankara. This pooja is conducted on Diwali as per the Hindu calendar and involves chanting mantras and decorating the Goddess with flowers and jewels. 2) Panguni Uthiram: Panguni Uthiram is a festival celebrated in Prithyankara Devi Temple during the Tamil month of Panguni (March-April). This festival is celebrated for ten days and ends with a special Maha Puja or pooja to the Goddess. On popular demand, Goddess Prithyankara is taken out in procession outside the temple. 3) Brahmotsavam: Brahmotsavam is a ten-day event celebrated during the Tamil month of Avani (August-September). On the first day, Lord Ganesha and Goddesses Lakshmi, Saraswati, Parvati and Durga are worshipped. Offerings of flowers and fruits are made to the Goddesses. On the final day, Rathotsavam or the car festival is celebrated with great fervor. 4) Navaratri: Navaratri is celebrated for nine nights in the month of Ashwin (September-October) as Goddess Durga is worshiped.
