The Pyramid of Khafre, also known as the Pyramid of Chephren, is the second largest of the three pyramids in the Giza Necropolis in Egypt. It stands 146.5 meters (481 feet) high and is the second largest pyramid in Egypt, approximately 8 meters (26.4 feet) lower than the Great Pyramid of Khufu (also known as the Pyramid of Cheops). The pyramid was built for the Pharaoh Khafre in the fourth dynasty by the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt and is said to have been completed around 2560 BCE. The pyramid's base is 215.5 meters (705.9 feet) square, and its sides measure 143.5 meters (471 feet) in length. It also has a three-level mortuary temple, the Great Sphinx, the Valley Temple, and a causeway linking it to the two other major pyramids in Giza. The pyramid is constructed of limestone, and unlike the Great Pyramid of Khufu, it retains much of the original limestone casing stones at its top. The pyramid's interior structure consists of a 2.2m (7ft) high king's chamber with five mysterious shafts, a subsidiary queen's chamber, and passages constructed with an inclined angle, The pyramid is the oldest known intact-structured building in the world. History:

The Great Pyramid of Khafre, also known as the Pyramid of Khafre or the Pyramid of Chephren, is the second largest pyramid in the Giza Necropolis in Egypt after the Great Pyramid of Khufu. It was built for the pharaoh Khafre, the son of Khufu, around 2520 BC. The pyramid is built out of limestone blocks and was originally covered with smooth white limestone, though much of this has worn away leaving an exposed core structure. The pyramid contains two separate burial chambers separated by a partition wall, including a subterranean chamber and an internal chamber cut into the bedrock beneath the pyramid. The limestone pyramid measures 203.4 ft (62 m) at its base and is 143.5 ft (43.9 m) high. It was the tallest of the three pyramids at Giza, with its summit 43.3 ft (13 m) higher than that of the Pyramid of Menkaure which stands to the south. Its base covers an area of 11,000 sq. ft. (1022.55 sq. m). It has an estimated volume of 99,693 cu. ft. (2827.7 cu. m). The pyramid was originally encased in smooth limestone, which has since been mostly removed. The outer casing was smoother and of finer quality than the inner core and featured large incised lines forming an isosceles triangle pattern which descended from the corners towards the centre, known as sheathing. There are two tall false doors at the east and west facades of the pyramid, both are decorated with images of the king wearing the nemes headdress, a cobra goddess of Lower Egypt, and several other deities. The northern and southern faces of the pyramid are slightly curved with a gently convex slope descending from the top. As with the Great Pyramid of Khufu, it was encircled by a wall, also known as a fence, that is composed of five or six rings of mud brick and six internal ramps that lead to the roof. The pyramid also features a causeway that runs from the valley temple located at the foot of the pyramid, passing a small satellite pyramid before leading up to the mortuary temple located on the pyramid’s east side. Inside the mortuary temple, the entrance leads to an antechamber, which in turn leads to the burial chamber within the pyramid itself.
