History:
St. Mary's Cathedral In Srilanka was originally founded by the French Jesuits in the 15th century. It served as the main Catholic place of worship in the country until 1936 when it was destroyed during the Indian invasion. In the 19th century, the church was rebuilt in a different style, which was closer to the more recognizably traditional Catholic style. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Srilanka.
