St Ann's Church, Kokkilai In Srilanka is a 500-year-old Roman Catholic Church located in the inland fishing village of Kokkilai, Sri Lanka. St Ann's Church was built in the early 16th century by Italian missionary, Father Pons, who lived near the church for many years. This church was originally built to serve the local fishermen, their families and the local people of the region. The church is still an active worshipping facility, and is a place of prayer for the local community.

History:
The site of St Ann’s was considered a holy place by Sri Lanka’s indigenous people, the Vedda, who would come to the site for worship and meditation. In 1540, Father Pons who was sailing from Galle to Jaffna, curved into the sandy beach at Kokkilai. The peaceful environment of the fishing village of Kokkilai made the missionary decide to remain there. Due to the success of his mission, Father Pons built the church with the help of the local community which, it is believed, was also called St. Ann’s. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Srilanka.
