St. Andrew's Scots Kirk Church In Srilanka: History,Facts, & Services
St. Andrew's Scots Kirk Church is a historic church in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Built in 1842, it is one of the oldest surviving churches in the country. The church was originally established by early Scottish settlers who came to the island during colonial rule. St. Andrew’s is a Presbyterian Church with services held in English and Sinhala every Sunday. The stained glass windows and white marble pulpit installed in 1896 are among the highlights of the spacious interior. Many of the decorative items, sculptures and furnishings found in the church are over 100 years old. There are several memorial plaques to commemorate those who lost their lives in both World Wars. The church also has a cemetery, where many famous people from the 19th century are buried.
