Worship Method:
Sri Visalachchi Samatha Visvanathar Temple offers special puja services and rituals to the Hindu devotees. The general temple worship is performed twice a day that includes a morning pooja and an evening pooja. The morning pooja begins at 6:00 am and includes a special abhishekam of the Moolavar deity, Lord Visvanathar. After the abhishekam, the priestly-priest offers prasad to the devotees. The temple also offers archanai, special puja offerings and homams. Archanai is performed with coconut water offering to the moolavar deity and other sub-deities. Special puja offerings include archanais, special prayers, navagraha mantra chanting, geru homams and kala homams. Pushpanjali, kumkumarchana and sasya santhi poojas are also offered in the temple. Devotees who visit the temple for a special puja and homam are offered a patron’s puja. This puja involves worshipping Lord Visvanathar with offerings such as turmeric, vermilion, flowers, fruits, incense and camphor. Once the patron's puja has been completed, the devotees are asked to perform a padippu and then take prasadam. In addition to the puja, daily rituals include a reading of the Sri Vishnusahasranamam. Devotees are encouraged to participate in this process, as it is considered to be a form of puja and a method of intense meditation offering. The kala homam is usually performed on the day of Mahalaya Amavasya, which is the New Moon day of the month of ‘Sravana. It is dedicated primarily to repair the ancestral rites and to fulfill the wishes of the devotees. The kala homam involves offering numerous religious items such as kalabati, lamps, turmeric and vermilion, along with chanting of the various mantras associated with it.
