Christ Church is a Christian church located in Kollupitiya, Colombo, Sri Lanka. The church is part of the Church of Ceylon (Anglican Communion). It was founded in 1861 by Rev. Mark Carpenter, an Anglican missionary. Christ Church was originally opened in 1861 by Rev. Mark Carpenter. The first service was conducted in the drawing room of "Stone House”, the centrally located residence owned by Mr. William Christopher Cole. The congregation started to grow quickly and the church needed more space. In 1868, with the help of contributions from local benefactors, the construction of the new church was started, but it was only completed in 1872.
