St. Anne’s National Shrine - Thalawila in Srilanka is a Catholic church located in the Chilaw District, Sri Lanka. It is the largest St. Anne's shrine in the world. It was built in 1849 and is managed by the Franciscan Friars of the Third Order Regular since 1997. The Shrine is a place of great spiritual and architectural beauty and attracts pilgrims from all corners of the island. It is one of the best churches in Srilanka which you must visit.

History:

 The Shrine was built in 1849 and is dedicated to St. Anne, the grandmother of Jesus. It is believed that St. Anne once lived in Thalawila where the Shrine stands today. In 1997, the Franciscan Friars of the Third Order Regular took over the management of the Shrine and began several projects of renovation and expansion. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Srilanka.
