The temple follows a unique form of worship, which was created by Adi Sankara over a thousand years ago. If traveling by car, you will first need to reach Dambulla, which is located about 75 km from Colombo. From Dambulla, take the Colombo-Dambulla-Trincomalee Road and drive for 12 km.
