The worship method of the Sri Muthumari Amman temple in Alpitiya, Sri Lanka is centered around the devotees’ prayers for the deity and offerings of Bajans (devotional songs) and prayers to the Goddess. The temple provides the devotees with coconuts, flowers, incense sticks, and money as offerings, which are offered during the puja (ritual worship). Devotees are also encouraged to offer a burning diya as a form of prayer. Every day, a special pujas (daily puja) is conducted which is mainly in the form of rice, flowers, prayers, chants and offerings of coconuts and money. After the puja, the devotees participate in special aartis (devotional songs) and bhajans which are led by the temple priests and pandits (teachers). Devotees are also expected to take part in the Prasadam (food item) offered at the temple to the Goddess after the puja.
