The Church of Our Lady of Expectation in Srilanka is a Roman Catholic parish located in Negombo, Sri Lanka. The church is a part of the Archdiocese of Colombo and it was officially established in July 1851. It was the first Catholic parish outside of Colombo, and it was established with strong support from the local Portuguese community in Negombo.
History
The Church of Our Lady of Expectation in Srilanka was founded in 1851 on the site of an old Portuguese chapel that had been built around 1650. The church was originally constructed in the shape of a cross, consisting of the main church building, the transepts and a bell-tower. It was renovated several times and by 1952, it had been extended to what we know today.
