St Anna's Church, Žbince In Slovakia is a Roman Catholic church that dates back to the 15th century and is located in the town of Žbince in the Central Slovakia region. Its main features include a Gothic tower and Renaissance-Baroque decorations. It is an important cultural and historical monument in Slovakia. The first written records of the church date back to the early 15th century, although some historical sources suggest a slightly earlier origin. The church underwent several renovations in the 16th and 17th centuries, when it was equipped with an impressive roof structure, a Renaissance-Baroque presbytery and a two-story tall tower – all made in white paint. The Baroque sanctuary, which is decorated with wall paintings, dates back to the 18th century and was created by artist Ludovít Madarász. In the 20th century, the church was damaged by several fires, but it was restored to its former beauty. Today, St Anna’s Church is a popular pilgrimage site, as well as a symbol of Slovenský kostol (the Church of Slovakia). Masses are held every Sunday and other holy days as celebrated by the diocese of Žilina, with celebrations also taking place for special occasions, such as for St. Anna’s Day (July 26th) and the annual pilgrimage of the Slovak nation on June 30th. The church is open to visitors on Saturdays and during special events.
