History:
The Church of the Assumption was built in the 14th century by the people of Banská Bystrica in what is now Slovakia. It was first recorded in the year 1313 by King Robert of Habsburg, and is mentioned in the archepiscopal documents of Archbishop Jan Prandota of Nitra in 1344. The church was likely built on the site of an earlier church that had been destroyed in a Mongol invasion.
