The Church of St. Stephan of Hungary in Slovakia is a Roman Catholic Church located in Trenčín, Slovakia. The church is dedicated to Saint Stephen I and stands as an architectural landmark in the city. In 2008, the church was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the Trenčín Castle Town Monument Reserve. It is one of the best churches in Slovakia which you must visit.

History:

The church was constructed between the years 1243 and 1263 in the square style of late-Romanesque architecture. It was constructed as a defensive church to guard the castle of Trenčín and the town. The church was commissioned by the Hungarian King Béla IV who wanted to honor his son and later martyr, Stephen I. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Slovakia.
