The Church was established by Father Matteo D’Addei in 1925 and served as a major regional centre of pilgrimage. In 2007, the Church undertook a massive renovation though the original structure still stands. The Church is known for its outreach to the poor and disadvantaged across the region. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Sierra-Leone.
