The first resident Anglican bishop was appointed in 1830 and soon after a number of churches were established throughout the country. During World War II, the Church played an active role in providing relief to people affected by the War. In 1969, the Anglican Diocese of Freetown and Bo was created, with the Church growing steadily in size and influence. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Sierra-Leone.
