Dornoch Cathedral In Scotland: History,Facts, & Services
History:
Dornoch Cathedral is one of Scotland's oldest religious sites; it is associated with St. Gilbert, a monk who arrived in the 11th century and created a small settlement. The church that occupied the site was founded in 1239, however near 1130, a monastic community of Benedictines had a presence. The Augustinians occupied the site in 1263, but the building was destroyed by the Cromwellians in 1650. The current building was designed by architect, William Burn, and completed in 1837. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Scotland.

Dornoch Cathedral is said to be haunted by an uninvited guest known as the Black 8. The ghost is depicted as a lady in a long, black dress and a tall hat, and is believed to be the spirit of an unhappy bride who could not marry the man she loved. Other tales of spiritual activity include the bells ringing on their own, and a figure seen in the churchyard.
Services:
Held every Sunday at 10:30am, services at Dornoch Cathedral include Sunday Communion, a Monthly Service of Healing and Wholeness, Evening Eucharist, and Evensong on Wednesdays. Sunday School takes place during morning services.This beautiful church in Scotland has made a lot of significance in the past.
