History - Abernyte Church in Scotland dates back to as early as the 12th century; it is one of the oldest and most beautiful churches in Angus and is situated amongst the rolling hills of Strathmore and the River Tay. It is believed to have been originally built as a place of worship for residents in the area, and in the 16th century was home to large numbers of people including the rumoured poet William Dunbar. Facts - - A gabled bell tower dominates the north side of Abernyte church. - The church was built of red and yellow sandstone, typical of the region. - The graveyard is home to gravestones dating back over 400 years. - It is believed that the church is dedicated to Saint Michael. Services - Abernyte Church offers a variety of services for its visitors, including Sunday services, coffee hour after the Sunday service, and an open communion service, as well as the occasional special service to celebrate a special occasion.
