It was reportedly founded by an Indian Muslim from the city of Jeddah who emigrated to India and returned to the city around 1730. The original structure of the mosque was reconstructed in the late 19th century, and redesigned in 1955 by local architect Hasan S. Hegazi. The present building stands on a piece of land donated by the Awrad family to the local community. It was built with the intention of becoming one of the largest and most impressive mosques in the region, boasting features such as a large prayer hall, full-service restaurant, and an impressive minaret. It is one of the most famous mosque in Saudi-Arabia which you must visit.

The mosque's architectural design is a mix of contemporary and traditional elements, utilising a Islamic geometric pattern. It has a large central courtyard, numerous prayer halls, a large dome, and four large minarets. The mosque can hold up to 12,000 worshippers at one time. It has been described as one of the most beautiful mosques in the world. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.

Masjid al-Awrad is located on Palestine Street, in the Aziziyah District of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. To get to Masjid al-Awrad by public transport, one can take the bus (Line 22) at King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED), and get off at the Palestine Street Station, or take the tram from the King Abdulaziz Road stop and get off at the Palestine Street Station. By car, one can take the Makkah Al Mokarramah Road/Palestine Street, and then turn right onto Palestine Street and the masjid will be located on the left side of the road. The nearest parking lot is located near the intersection of Palestine Street and Haraj Street. beautiful masjid.
