The church was established in 1950, following the arrival of Jesuit priests from France in 1948. The Jesuits were asked by the local people to build a church in the village. The people collected materials for the construction and the building was completed in two years. Our Lady of Fatima Church has served the Vieux Fort community ever since. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Saint Lucia.
