Church of the Assumption, Vieux Fort was originally built in 1745 by the Bishop of Basse-Terre, France. Originally, it was a prison but it was converted into a chapel. Since then, the church has gone through a periodic renovation to restore its former glory. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Saint Lucia.

Church of the Assumption, Vieux Fort is the site of many historic tombs of missionaries, bishops, and priests. It is 35 kilometers south of the capital, Castries and is considered one of the oldest and most important churches in the Caribbean. It was listed as a Historic Site in 2005 by UNESCO.
