The Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Castries is a Roman Catholic church located in Castries, Saint Lucia. It was constructed from 1895 to 1916, and was consecrated in 1910 as St. Mary’s Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The building was later elevated to a minor basilica in 1952. The cathedral is one of the oldest structures in the city, and a central landmark of Castries. It is one of the best churches in Saint Lucia which you must visit.

History:

 The building of the cathedral was initiated in 1895 by Bishop Reynald J. Skeete. At first, the cathedral was constructed with a wooden frame and the exterior walls were made of sandstone rubble. The original building was designed with a Baroque influence but due to structural issues, the wooden frame was replaced with a granite and circular stone in 1916. In 1910, the building was consecrated and dedicated to St. Mary, the patron saint of Castries. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Saint Lucia.
