Ex Chiesa di Santa Maria in Grottapinta In Rome: History,Facts, & Services
Ex Chiesa di Santa Maria in Grottapinta is a church located in the central Italian city of Florence. It was built sometime in the 12th century as a Romanesque oratory. The existing architecture of the church dates back to the 16th century, when Pier Francesco Silvani and Giovanni Mochi reconstructed the church in a Mannerist style. It is notable for its frescoes by Ventura Salimbeni and Niccolò Tornioli, which are considered to be some of the best works they ever produced. The church also boasts a beautiful and well-preserved 18th-century pipe organ that was made by Gherardo Staffa in 1702. Ex Chiesa di Santa Maria in Grottapinta is now a cultural center that hosts a variety of art exhibitions, concerts, and other cultural events throughout the year.
