Tempio romano is a culturally significant temple ruin in central Italy, believed to be dedicated to the Roman goddess of victory, Victoria. It is situated outside the village of Quintum Errone (in Latin: the fifth error) in the Lazio region of Italy, and is believed to have been built in the early first century AD. Tempio romano
Facts:
-Tempio romano is the oldest existing temple in the Lazio region of Italy. -The original temple was destroyed by an earthquake in 1456, but the surviving ruins consist of three columns and its cella (inner sanctum). -The reconstruction of the temple was funded by a public subscription during the Renaissance period. -The three columns at Tempio romano are said to symbolize the three basic elements of the temple: the steps, the cella and the pronaos (entranceway). -The cella is the inner sanctum of the temple, which holds the altar and the statue of the goddess. History:
The temple is thought to have been commissioned by the consul Marcus Fulvus Flaccus in the first century BC. He dedicated the temple to Victoria, the goddess of victory. During the Roman Empire, the temple was a popular site for pilgrims, who would make offerings to the goddess. In the 5th century AD, a bishop of Rome gave the temple religious significance as a Christian shrine. Tempio romano
