History:

The origin of the museum can be traced back to the 16th century. This was when Pope Sixtus II V established the first mint in Rome, creating the Accademia della Zecca for minting coins for the official use of the Papal States. Later in the 19th century, the Accademia della Zecca evolved into the Italian State Mint, and the museum continued to expand its collection. Museo della Zecca di Roma

The museum is located in the former Italian State Mint, Piazza Guglielmo Marconi 2, in Rome. It is open on Tuesdays to Sundays, from 9:30am to 7:30pm in the summer, and from 8:30am to 6:30pm in the winter. The museum offers free admission but group tours must be booked in advance.
