History:
Church of Saint Mary 'del Riposo' was built in 1565 in the Tuscan Revival style and was opened to the public in 1571. The church was constructed on the site of a devotional chapel that had belonged to the Duchess Caterina Gonzaga, a wealthy noblewoman who wished to immortalize her beloved sister Maria in this way. The founders were two noblemen, as well as the Duke of Savoy and the Superintendant of Savoy, who were heavily involved in the funding and construction of the church. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Rome.

The Church of Saint Mary 'del Riposo' is home to Turin's oldest cemetery, which was established in 1571 to support the church's pilgrimage. The church is surrounded by ornamental gardens, which remain largely intact despite the passage of centuries. The interior of the church features a high altar, marble inlays, paintings, frescoes and other artwork that have been carefully conserved over the years.
