Worship Method:

The worship method practiced in Gurudwara Baba Atal Rai Sahib - Amritsar in Punjab is quite similar to the worship methods practiced in other gurudwaras. The devotees start with performing a paath (reciting various scriptures) at the foot of the stairs leading to the sanctum of the Gurudwara. After the paath, the devotees proceed to the sanctuary to pay their respects and offer their prayers. They then perform individual spiritual practices such as prayer, meditation, and chanting of mantras. After this, the devotees come out of the sanctuary and go to the langar hall to have a communal meal followed by kirtan (singing of religious devotionals). The Devotees then return to the Gurudwara and take part in the hukamnana (reading of the Divine Commandments). After the Hukamnana, the devotees perform an ardas (collective prayer) and Sangat (group worship) as a way of showing respect. After the Sangat, the devotees are invited to take part in the Shabad (hymns) and kirtan, and then to take part in a distribution of Prasad (holy offerings) from the Gurudwara.
