History:

The construction of the Co-cathedral of Miranda do Douro began in 1517 by King D. Manuel I of Portugal, immediately after Miranda do Douro was declared city by a royal charter. On May 31, 1518, the cornerstone was placed and construction was finished in 1522. The Co-cathedral was consecrated on August 29, 1522 by the bishop of Viseu, D. António Barroso. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Portugal.
