The walls and eight pillars of the Chapel of Bones are decorated with Human Skulls and Bones. It is believed that the bones belong to around 5000 bodies exhumed from the church’s cemetery. A plaque on the entrance of the chapel reads “Nós ossos que aqui estamos, pelos vossos esperamos” (“We, the bones that are here, wait for yours”).
