Discover - Residence of Monk Phukhao Wong - Fact, History and Travel Information
The Residence of Monk Phukhao Wong is an ancient teakwood building located in the historical city of Chiang Mai, northern Thailand. Built in the late 1700s, it is the oldest teakwood house in Thailand that remains intact. It is believed to have been the home of Monks Phukhao and Yannoi, who decided to build the house in harmony with the surrounding environment. The house is located on the edge of a river and provides a unique view of the city and the surrounding valleys. The residence was spared from development and survived a number of fires, floods and wars to remain as it is today. Its intricate architecture and decoration are reminders of the beauty of Thai culture and how it has survived in its remote home in Northern Thailand. It is open to visitors and can be rented out as a private luxury accommodation.
