Overview:
The Phuoc Long Catholic Church is a single-story building with high ceilings and a spacious interior. Inside, visitors can find numerous seating areas and a large altar, which is often decorated with bright flowers and candles. The outside of the building is notable for its yellow walls and windows, as well as its iron grill-patterned entrance.
Facts:
The original building at the site was destroyed during the Vietnam War and the present church was constructed in 1989. The church also serves as a refuge for some of the city's homeless and disadvantaged, hosting a soup kitchen and providing them with shelter and assistance.
History:
The concept of the Phuoc Long Catholic Church was first proposed in 1910 by the French Roman Catholic Missionaries, who wanted to build a church in HCMC to serve the growing Catholic population in the area. It wasn't until 1970 that the actual construction began and the final building was completed in 1989.
