Phu Kradung is a prominent mountain in northeastern Thailand which stands at 1,776 m (5,826 ft). It is the highest mountain in Thailand, and is one of the main peaks of the Khun Tan Range. The national park was established in 1974 and is a refuge for the endangered Serow (Asian wild goat). History:
Phu Kradung is one of the main peaks of the Khun Tan Range, and has been an important natural resource for centuries. In ancient times it was said to be inhabited by an evil spirit, which is why the area was off-limits to the general public. During the establishment of modern Thailand in the 19th century, King Mongkut declared the mountain a royal hunting ground, and declared the surrounding area as a national park in 1974. Phu Kradung

The park also hosts many festivals throughout the year, such as a Thai New Year festival in April, and the annual Phu Kradung Blossom festival in December. There are also several cultural attractions in the park, which include the Phu Kradung Elephant Ground, Huai Muang Dam, and Pabo Shrine.
